V.01 (ISEA2008) V.02 (Creanumerica)

Claim

We [0], are proposing to the world a way of communication with the inner realms of consciousness trough technological processes. The Aurora Consurgens Project articulate a visual and sonic installation, sounds that are diffused on a binaural mode, and that transforms the space around, according to the laws of standing waves behavior, and people movments.

The image processing is diffused on a projected screen for a better immersion in the feed-back environment, and the modulating shapes of these images are strictly based on mathematical abstractions and fellow the idea of Jungian and alchemical archetypes.

Two persons are invited to connect their brainwave acivity in a fusional state.

Background

We wanted in this work to re-contextualize the connection between the cognitive fields opened by the use of our technologies and the mechanisms of collective unconsciousness.

It was important for us to focus on the idea of collective intelligence, and to present an interface of communication with universal archetypes that each member for each culture can interpret or recognize. These brain wave’s modulated patterns, are emerging in states of relaxation, and doesn’t participate at the reductive process developed in the philosophy of mind gaming, that enhance more the spirit of competition. The idea was there to offer an interface of communication with the subtle mechanism of our unconsciousness or cognitive conglomerates. In this version (V.01) two brains are virtually connected together and supply together common information that is recompose in real time trough visualization and audio processing.

We wanted on the other part to re-interrogate the state of deep modification that our technologies of Information and Communications create on the individual and collective unconsciousness. If it’s not easy to define on which model the cognitive conglomerate’s interfaces emerge at our awareness, and even to define if these conglomerates acquired a relative autonomy in space and time (or even on non-local models), the first observations we made, make us to realize that each new organic or non-organic contribution on human reading of reality, tend to substitute the older interfaces. If archetypal formations tend to remain as models, actual technological interfaces tend to substitute, if entered in resonance with those archetypes, the shapes of archaic interfaces developed during the evolution of humanity. In another way, this phenomenon seems not to be restricted only with the use we make of our technological prosthesis, but also extend to our cultural or pop-cultural sounds and images.

The energy given off by bodies, objects, particles and electrical charges of all kinds produces the electro-magnetic field that surrounds us. An invisible landscape exist within our more tangible, physical environment. The artists will focus there on another waves that open the doors of the inner realms. Their installation offers an alternative to render the different states of consciousness trough the exploration of cognitive conglomerates. This operation invite the observer in a paradoxical place of creation, situation where the brain waves articulate the evocations of archetypal constructions, and where the consciousness spared of the coagulation of representation, go back to it’s incommunicable and fundamental origin.

Marie Christine Driesen (France) and Horia Cosmin Samoila (Romania) explore within the GhostLab, the full spectrum of electromagnetic landscapes, its beyond, and cognitive limits. Their work in this area has manifest themselves in video, performance, installations, and other new media projects.
